After graduation in 1993 from Marymount University in L.A., Van Partible sought to work in the animation field. In Cartoon Network's early years, they scoured the globe to find cartoon shorts for their new program called the "What A Cartoon" Show. The show was compiled of many shorts from independent artists. Van's pitch included an over muscled, mock-Elvis, narcissistic, southern heartthrob that was too stupid to figure out women. The name "Johnny Bravo" came from a Brady Bunch episode in which Greg Brady wanted to change his image to something more hip.

Done in the classic cel animation style, the shorts were successful enough that Cartoon Network asked Van and his team to turn Johnny Bravo into a weekly series. In order to turn the story of this macho man into a series, they worked on additional characters including Johnny's mama, Bunny Bravo, and the little girl that lived next door, Suzy. Johnny Bravo made its debut as a "World Premiere Cartoon" on Monday, July 14th, 1997. The first season included 13 half hour episodes peppered with Johnny's insane pick-up lines, and the soft spot in his heart for his mom.

The second season of Johnny Bravo was created more than a year later. This time a new production team was hired to change the pace of the show. One of their focuses was to expand the world of Johnny and his friends, thus creating more plot. Aside from new model designs, new characters were added. There was Carl, the stereotypical geek that wanted to be Johnny's friend, and also Pops, the diner owner that Johnny turned to for advice.

Today the Bravo fan base is still strong and has become a cult favorite among the teenage and adult crowd. The series completed "most" of its run by 2001, but kept the last two remaining new episodes that finally aired in 2002. Specials Christmas episode in 2001, and a Valentine's Day special,  both produced by Van Partible and company, that aired in 2003.
