The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, created by Maxwell Atoms, was the first Cartoon Cartoon series that viewers of had a hand in creating. On August 24-25, 2000, Cartoon Network held its first
"Big Pick," an internet and call-in even that gave fans the opportunity to
vote for one of the three of the top cartoon pilots that aired
that summer. “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy”, “Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?” and “Longhair and Doubledome” were the final contenders.
Winning over "Robot Jones," the series was contracted and the
first season appeared on Cartoon Network in 2001.
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is the story of two kids, the dimwitted Billy, and ever cynical Mandy,
who meet Death himself (Grim). In an effort to save Mr. Snuggle's life (Billy's pet hamster), Mandy purposes a game with some high
stakes. If the Grim Reaper wins, he can take Billy and Mr. Snuggles to the underworld, if the kids win, the Reaper is forced to be their best friend forever. After a grueling limbo contest, Billy and Mandy find themselves a new playmate for life. The trio now lives on in suburban America dealing with the typical problems of life...school, friends, and defending the living realm from otherworldly beings.
When originally released, the series was a combination of two shows in
one. Segments of "Evil Con Carne," another short of Maxwell
Atom's, was put between two "Grim" cartoons in each show. The
title of the combined program was Grim and Evil. In late 2003,
Cartoon Network decided to pull apart the shows, giving each their own
show. Currently The Adventures of
Grim and Evil currently just wrapped its second season and premiered a
Halloween special in 2003.
