What’s New Scooby-Doo?, maked
its Cartoon Network debut on Friday, March 28, 2003, on Cartoon Network,
after an extensive run on the KidsWB Network. The series finally brought
those “meddling kids” of Mystery, Inc. to the 21st
Century. Everyone’s favorite Great Dane and his
intrepid cohorts – Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred – stumble upon a
new batch of creature-related mysteries in these prime time comic
adventures.
Traveling to exotic locales, the gang
finds themselves knee-deep in a whole new slew of capers, cases and
creepy crime scenes. This time, they are aided by an
arsenal of Internet-age gizmos and gadgets — from laptop computers and
PDAs to mobile communicators and GPS systems. Now
ghouls and goons face a tougher time than ever trying to get away with
their ghastly goings-on.
Fred, the leader of the group, updates
his wardrobe with an open-collared shirt and sweater in place of his
classic orange ascot. Bespectacled Velma remains the
brains behind the operation while Daphne brings her unique style and
flair to the cases. Shaggy’s huge appetite and
skepticism keeps the mood light and occasionally helps solve a case.
Finally, Scooby-Doo adds his unerring canine instinct to spot
trouble…and run in the opposite direction.
“Scooby-Doo has been a staple of
Cartoon Network’s programming for many years, and we think the return
of this pooch will add new punch to our prime time lineup,” said Jim
Samples, executive vice president and general manager of Cartoon
Network. “What’s New Scooby-Doo? is a
fresh and fun series that will please cartoon fans young and old.”
